A great new year

Creation date: 20 January 2020

The year 2020 is already a few weeks old, but there is still far to go.  We, at Port of Aarhus, are looking forward to several new and exciting projects.  Here are a few of the most important ones:

Currently, we are constructing a new ferry terminal which will be completed this fall, and at that time Molslinjen will re-locate to Østhavnen.  Along with the relocation of the ferry, the car traffic will increase by approximately 1.3 cars and 3 million passengers, and we are currently in the process of making space for these on Østhavnsvej, wich will be upgraded to a four-lane road - two lanes in each direction - with smart traffic control. This requires careful planning and have therefor consulted our customers and had several traffic analyses performed.

The year ahead will also be marked by the environmental study we are required to conduct, in relation to the construction of Yderhavnen.  Many conditions are to be checked - on land, in the water, in the air. We would like to begin the construction of Yderhavnen as soon as possible, but of course, the conditions should be checked in advance. This will also very much be to our advantage.

During spring, the Royal Arctic Line (RAL) will call at Port of Aarhus, after only having been calling at Port of Aalborg for the past 40 years.  At the same time, this will mark the beginning of a partnership between RAL and Eimskip - two shipping lines that have co-invested in three new container ships to service Greenland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands. We already have a sound partnership with Eimskip, and we are looking forward to cooperating with RAL. We are proud that this Greenlandic shipping line has chosen Port of Aarhus as a business partner in their efforts to connect Greenland even more to the rest of the world.

2020 is also the year where two new companies, Pond and Connovate, which are endeavoring to produce sustainable products, will initiate their productions at Port of Aarhus. Pond plans to produce a sustainable alternative to conventional plastic, and Connovate produces an ingredient for sustainable concrete. Both Pond and Connovate have opted to set up at Port of Aarhus as they believe a location close to the quay to be a major advantage.

2020 may well be a year to remember, as the Marselistunnel finally got back on the agenda - and the planning stage was launched. Something (and someone) is telling us that this may very well be so.
