About Port of Aarhus

Port of Aarhus is the largest container port in Denmark with a central location, internationally as well as domestically

Fine-meshed route network

Port of Aarhus has a fine-meshed route network with several weekly connections to ports in the Nordic countries, Northern, Southern and Eastern Europe as well as ports in the UK, the eastern Mediterranean and the Far East through 15 shipping companies. Some of the world's largest container ships from Maersk Line call into this port, and we have a good position in international competition with container ports in Germany and the Netherlands, among others.

Port service with pilot and towing services

Ships calling at the port of Aarhus can use our pilot service, mooring service and tug boats. The port service is available 24 hours all the year round at very short notice. The port has two tug boats, "Aros" and "Hermes", as well as the pilot boat "Thrym" and the Port Security boat "Ara".

Flexible infrastructure

Port of Aarhus continuously ensures the necessary infrastructure through modifications and expansions.

Large container port as well as bulk terminal and multiterminal

Port of Aarhus is a strong, international container port, but it also includes the largest public bulk terminal in Denmark for transport of grain, feedstuff and oil. Furthermore, Port of Aarhus is the largest ferry port in Western Denmark.

Competitive port operations

A high level of efficiency and free competition between several terminal operators result in the Port of Aarhus being one of the most competitive ports on the market – also regarding price. Stevedore services such as loading and unloading are carried out by various private stevedore companies, who also employ the dock workers, who are still casual workers. Port of Aarhus is a municipal self-governing port with its own Board of Directors and functions as a financially independent unit without public subsidies.
